Care of Reusable Sanitary Protection?

Home / Care of Reusable Sanitary Protection?

The average woman in the western world uses more than 7000 items of disposable
sanitary towels and tampons (sanpro) during her life

Cloth Pads

Rinse/soak used pads in cold water

Machine wash at 40 degrees C with your normal load of similar colours.

Store used pads for a couple of days in a covered container, immersed in cold, salty water, before machine-washing. The water should be changed each day.

“Washing was quick and easy, and much less unpleasant than disposing of used pads/tampons: somehow it all seems cleaner and fresher.”

Menstrual Cups

Empty 4 times in 24 hours

Wash first thing in the morning and last thing at night in hot soapy water, rinse at other times.

The silicone cup (Mooncup) should be sterilised at the end of the period (using same techniques as for baby equipment).

“It took a few days to get used to, but what a difference! I now have to remind
myself that I have a period.”
